Yoga Nidra is a technique for a guided relaxation that also is called y ogic sleep, or the sleepless sleep. Yoga Nidra can help you to a deep relaxation, help your body and mind calm down.
This is the easiest type of yoga, you just listen and receive. You often lite down. The idea is to get to this borderline between being awake and asleep. If you would fall asleep during a class, then it is just what your body needs at that moment.
A Yoga Nidra is built up in different ways, but as tools to relax you often use some different steps to get these. After finding a relaxed position a Yoga Nidra has some or several of these steps:
– a guided rotation/scanning of the body
– observation of your breath
– a description where you try to feel the effect of opposites, grounded – floating or tense – relaxed.
– sometimes a YogaNidra includes a visualisation of images.
These different steps are there to get awareness but also relaxation.
Yoga Nidra can be a part of a yoga class, a longer relaxation, it can also be a separate class where you just relax and maybe can prepare yourself to sleep and relax better.
If you want to know more what Yoga Nidra is like, your will find a recorded class at “Do yoga on your own“. I might also do some Yoga Nidra evenings with online classes. Please contact me if you are interested.
I did my Yoga Nidra teacher training with Melanie Cooper/ Yoga Leela.
